Managing Role-Reversal in Caring For Your Aging Parent

January 30, 2017 by admin_lhh

The struggle with boundaries can be frustrating for any child who has been thrust into the role of caring for their elderly parents. Witnesing a parent lose their independence is one of the most challenging situations we face as our parents get older. It can be difficult to be the one making all the decisions for another adult, even though it must be done.

It is so important to balance your own needs with the needs of your loved one. Making sure you are getting enough sleep and having some consistent down time when needed can help allow you to manage your own reactions to difficult situations and keep a clear head. It can also be helpful to have a support network of people you can talk to such as family members or friends who can listen and give good advice.
